Personal Info

I started my academic life as a pharmacologist, but investigating the effect of alcohol on insulin and the liver led me down the biochemistry path for my Ph.D. Still moving in insulin circles, I moved to Stanford for my postdoctoral fellowship and then to University of Nebraska Medical Center. My current role as Research Methodologist at the Phoenix VA keeps me in the realm of data – and lots of it. I am also very excited to be expanding my research horizons outside of insulin: I work on projects dealing with heart failure, lung cancer, diabetes, aging, among others. The goal is to improve the health, healthcare and lives of Veterans. In my current position I have gained a great amount of experience in SQL programming and statistical analysis beyond that used in lab research. I am currently participating in 11 studies at the Phoenix VA Health Care System as research methodologist and/or statistician. I have one publication in the role of statistician (Dev et al in the list below). I have experience with the VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and working in the VINCI environment. I am also collaborating on a QI project at the Phoenix VA that uses a dashboard containing social determinants of health (SDOH) to identify patients who have missed screening mammogram appointments. This has produced an abstract to be presented at the 2020 meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA).
